How would you describe your style of tattooing?
I’d describe my style of tattooing as minimalist blackwork for the most part. My work is super inspired by nature and the beauty that surrounds us. I particularly like to focus on texture and combining different textures to achieve a realistic image. I like to produce pieces which are simultaneously complex and minimalistic, often in a small scale.
Out of all the tattoos you've done, what are some of your favourites and why?
I do a lot of animal portraits, often for people who have recently lost their pets and so it’s a huge honour to be asked to memorialise an animal they love so much. I also really love working with clients to transform an area/body part which they don’t like or feel comfortable with (due to scars, stretch marks, etc.) into something they love and are proud to show to the world.
Who inspires you the most?
Honestly the tattoo community as a whole inspires me! Particularly the new wave of artists who are constantly pioneering new styles and techniques and pushing the boundaries of what can be done. I’m awed the by work of artists like Zlata Kolomoyskaya (Goldy_z) and Kamil Czapiga – I love the clean, detailed nature of their work.
What does tattooing mean to you?
It’s such a cliche but tattooing is my life, it’s my passion, my purpose. I’ve been obsessed with tattoos since I was a kid when I realised you can draw on your body and have it last forever! Tattooing creates a bond between artist and client that is ever-lasting and I think that’s such a privilege be a part of. I feel that you tap into a sacred tradition when you tattoo; it’s a unique experience and one that I’m so grateful to be a part of.
What inspires you creatively?
I’m inspired by nature first and foremost. The world is so beautiful and diverse, there’s inspiration everywhere! I love watching nature documentaries and finding new forms and textures to utilise.
What’s the strangest thing you’ve been asked to tattoo (and did you do it)?
I was once asked to tattoo a life-size cabbage on a girl’s upper thigh area. I did it using a cross section to create a beautiful layered piece. It ended up reminiscent of a natural mandala. I love out-of-the-box ideas and working with clients in partnership to bring their concept to life.
